Response to an email from Jeannie M.

Doing your best when everybody tells you it isn't worth trying is a great thing. And when you are done, whether you succeed or fail, it is amazing how far you got. Because you went further than all those other people, ALL OF THEM DIDN'T MOVE AN INCH. Those who said it was pointless or impossible are left in the dust by you, the one who tried. And you have better character for it.
So if people don't support you in something, but you fool it is right or worth your time, do it. ESPECIALLY IN THIS CASE, it is a cold winter. People like you are rare and far between, most people have a selfish drive.
Let me share a story with you. A 15 year old boy once was assigned community service. Rather than picking up trash, he went to a care center for children with disabilities. He ended up befriending a little girl and they became great friends. His life was straightened out by this. But all along the way, people told him that he was a waste of time; imagine that, being told that you yourself are a waste of time. He got off the streets and stayed volunteering at the center. I am sure that he helped more than just that one girl.
Even if he had failed within his first day, at least he would have gotten an eye opener. He was better off from that first moment than all those bays picking up trash. He was helping himself and others.
Am I making sense here?
Moral: Do things that you think are important, even when people tell you not to bother.
